Thomas Miller Volunteer at The Marylebone Project

Last week 7 employees from Thomas Miller's marketing functions made use of the global volunteering scheme available to all employees, which allows up to three days paid leave per year to undertake civic duties and community projects.

The Marylebone Project

The day was spent with the Marylebone Project, a charity providing a life-changing service for homeless women based in the Borough of Westminster, London. It is the largest and longest-running centre of its kind in the UK, with over 90 years of experience supporting vulnerable homeless women in crisis. This includes those who have suffered from domestic abuse or servitude, human trafficking, asylum seekers, alcohol and drug abuse, unemployment, multiple complex needs, minority ethnicity issues and learning disabilities.

The centre provides a safe environment where the women can rebuild trust, learn to re-engage with society and through empowerment start to re-build their lives through the projects service provision.

The Volunteer Day

The team, which included some of our Marketing teams across Thomas Miller Group, UK P&I Club and TT Club, were tasked with painting a corridor for one of the common areas for the residents of the centre. They were asked to transform the bright yellow walls, to a lighter colour, providing a more tranquil environment.

With little to no painting experience, the group got to work, painting a few coats throughout the day, before finishing with gloss, leading to a transformation of the corridor:

At the end of the day, the Marylebone Project’s dedicated Volunteer Coordinator took the team through the centre, to learn more about the incredible impact they have on so many women each day, with a vision of empowering these women to end their homelessness and live their lives to the full. This includes hostel accommodation and resettlement support, and also their dedicated Sanctuary, providing 24/7 support 365 days a year through a drop-in centre.

Thomas Miller look forward to supporting the Marylebone Project with other volunteering initiatives in the future, and we thank them for showing our team first-hand the vital support they provide day-to-day.
